My name is Shareena, I have worked in the Early Childhood Care and Education Sector for over thirty-one years. Besides holding my qualifications in childcare I also hold a Diploma in Management; Diploma in Community Services (Management) and a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training. In addition I am working towards completing my Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching). Between my husband and I we have raised two children and have enjoyed watched our children grow from babies, their time in Childcare, School through to University.
During the thirty-one years in the Early Childhood Care and Education Sector with the support of my family, I have been fortunate to have worked in different setting which included working with children from Non-English speaking backgrounds; Children with Additional Needs as well as Integrated Childcare and Preschool Services. These invaluable experiences have assisted me in developing a greater understanding both personally and professionally specifically on the importance of a culturally inclusive programs for children 0 to 5 years and the challenges faced by children and families with additional needs.
During my thirty-one years as an educator, I have spent 7 years running a room for up to 30 children 3 to 5 years of age. This period had been one of my most enjoyable and rewarding experiences in my career. The opportunities to watch and support children, in awe of the world around them explore, learn and grow. The sense of pride I have felt, that every Early Childhood Educator feels when watching the joy of achievement displayed on each child’s face that affirm the importance of our role as educators.
Over the last twenty-four year I have worked as a Director providing leadership, motivation and mentoring to inspire educators in the Early Childhood Care and Education Services on the importance of their role.
As the Director of Brompton Children’s Centre Inc., I was thrilled at the opportunity in March 2000 to join and lead this uniquely diverse, highly motivated staff team to pursue our passion in providing a high quality inclusive Care and Preschool Program for children 0 to 5 years. Over this period, I have also been able to pursue my commitment to the Early Childhood Care and Education Sector to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, their families and that of our dedicated educators within the Early Childhood sector.
With great pride I have watched, together with our dedicated staff team our centre here at Brompton Children’s Centre Inc. grow from strength to strength and the strong sense of community fostered from mutual respect between our staff team, our Governing Committee, children and families.
